WHAT IS ADULT ADHD?

Although often linked with childhood, Attention‑Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can persist into adulthood—or sometimes go undiagnosed until later in life. It may show up as trouble focusing, staying organized, finishing tasks, managing time, or controlling impulsivity.

The good news: adult ADHD is treatable, and getting assessed is the first step toward greater performance, confidence and well-being.

SHOULD YOU LOOK INTO ADHD ASSESSMENT?

If you’re a man who finds yourself:

  • Easily distracted, missing deadlines or forgetting tasks

  • Struggling to focus or complete plans

  • Consistently disorganized, running late, or relying on last-minute pushes

  • Feeling restless, impulsive, or frustrated that others seem to manage with less effort

  • Suspecting that something’s held you back professionally or personally

Then an ADHD assessment may be for you. At VMHC, we help identify whether ADHD is part of the picture—and if it is, we build a treatment plan so you can work smarter, feel sharper and reclaim control.

HOW WE ASSESS & TREAT ADHD

  • We review your history, current symptoms, how these affect your work, relationships, and daily life. We’ll ask what you’ve noticed and what you’d like to change.

  • Using blood work (when needed), structured questionnaires (e.g., adult ADHD rating scales) and clinical interview, we evaluate whether ADHD truly fits the picture, and rule out other causes.

  • If ADHD is confirmed, we review the findings with you: what’s behind your symptoms, how it affects you, and what your options are.

  • Treatment may include medication, behavioural strategies, lifestyle adjustments (sleep, structure, systems), and follow-up support.

  • We stay with you—not just a one-time diagnosis. At VMHC you’ll have follow-up visits, progress checks, adjustments and guidance to ensure your plan works long-term.

ADHD FAQs

  • ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, organization, impulse control, and emotional regulation. Many men live with ADHD without realizing it, often thinking they’re just “bad at focus” or “lazy.” An accurate diagnosis helps explain these struggles—and provides a clear path forward.

  • You might have adult ADHD if you frequently lose focus, get easily distracted, struggle to finish tasks, forget appointments, or feel mentally restless. Many men also notice frustration, irritability, or underperformance at work despite genuine effort. If this sounds familiar, an assessment can provide clarity.

  • Your assessment includes a detailed conversation about your symptoms and history, standardized ADHD questionnaires, and sometimes blood work to rule out other causes (like thyroid or hormone issues). Once complete, your clinician reviews the findings and discusses next steps—whether that’s confirming a diagnosis or exploring other explanations.

  • Not always. Medication can be an effective option, but it’s not the only one. We tailor every plan to the individual—that may include therapy, coaching strategies, exercise, lifestyle adjustments, or medication if appropriate. You and your physician decide together what works best for you.

  • The initial assessment typically takes 60–90 minutes, followed by a feedback appointment to review results and discuss treatment options. Once your plan begins, you’ll have follow-up visits to monitor progress and adjust if needed.

  • Yes. When prescribed and monitored by a qualified medical professional, ADHD treatments—including medications—are safe and effective. At VMHC, we provide ongoing care and regular check-ins to ensure your treatment remains the right fit for your goals and health.

  • Our approach is built specifically for men. We understand how ADHD often shows up differently in male adults—from work struggles and irritability to relationship stress. You’ll be cared for by experienced clinicians in a confidential, professional setting that takes your full health into account—not just symptoms.

  • ADHD doesn’t develop suddenly in adulthood, but symptoms can become more noticeable as responsibilities grow or coping strategies stop working. For some men, it’s the first time they’ve slowed down enough to recognize long-standing patterns—which is where assessment helps clarify things.
